There are three flames that continue to burn, four which are inextinguishable: the gossip of a bad reputation, the pain of a lover’s betrayal, the resentment of a child rejected, and the fiery judgment of God’s Gehenna where the stinging worm of regret never dies.

Andrew Dabar
A Proverb for the Fucked

Well, I don’t quite get this—three flames burn, four are inextinguishable. Am I missing something here, Andrew?

I wrote in the form of a Hebrew proverb that intensifies in number for a certain final emphasis or conclusion. I came across Proverbs 30.15-16 in the Bible and was so intrigued that I wrote my own. Mine is inspired by pain and not by God–you can tell by the blunt title.
By the way, I think the writer of that particular Proverb was also experiencing a drought such as yours according to his final conclusion.

Yeah, the title sort of gave it away…lol.
I pulled out my Bible, one gifted to me by my parents the Christmas I was ten, and looked up the chapter and verses you mention. I see the similarities. Maybe you need to write your own book of the Bible—“The Book of Andrew.” I’m sure it would make for some interesting reading.
Have you read any of”Song of Solomon?” It’s a short book all about love…reads like poetry. Also, did you know there are books of the Bible that were taken out hundreds of years ago? If you haven’t read it, I recommend one called the “Book of Enoch” written by the great-grandfather of Noah.

Call me an optimist, but I think all four can be extinguished!

Forgiveness might extinguish these flames but the human incapacity to forget keeps the fires burning.
