The reality of her re-entered my dreams
Reluctantly, permanently
For reasons of nobility
I dismissed her heart from me
Ripping my own at the seams

That must be why a funeral is called a wake
The loss of her opened my eyes
Secret love I’ve tried to disguise
Will forever eulogize
Her essence each breath I take

But this burning in my stomach won’t go away
Physical proof that she’s still there
She’ll always haunt me, I don’t care
She’s not going anywhere
I’m possessed—she’s here to stay

Now I smoke, drink, and write on a warm, moonlit night
Alone with my paper and pen
Remember the places we’ve been
Go there again and again
Bring past perfect love to light
